One in four adults over 65 falls every year, and most falls happen at home — in the bathroom, on the stairs, on the way to the bathroom at night. The hard part isn't caring. It's knowing what actually matters in her house, for her balance, her medications, her routines. A checklist from the internet can't see any of that. We can.
A 90-minute visit at the home, done by Hiram Tame — a licensed occupational therapist who has spent since 2012 watching how people really move through their homes. We screen fall risk (simple observed-and-timed checks — nothing hands-on), walk every room looking for hazards, and watch the daily routines: the stairs, the tub, the step into the garage. Then you get a written report that sorts everything into three lists: fix this week (most are under $50), schedule a pro, and bigger projects — each with planning costs, so the family can decide together, with real numbers.
This is a private-pay consulting service, not medical care or therapy, and it isn't covered by Medicare or insurance — which is exactly why we can usually be there within the week, not after a discharge or a denial letter.
Hiram Tame is a licensed Indiana occupational therapist (practicing since 2012) and the owner of Accessible Home Solutions, LLC, a Columbus family business. Tame Home Safety is his aging-in-place and fall-prevention practice: the same clinical eye he uses in rehabilitation, pointed at the place it matters most — home.
Columbus and Bartholomew County, plus Edinburgh, Seymour, North Vernon, Nashville, Greensburg, and Franklin — about a 30-minute drive from Columbus.
No. It's a private-pay consultation — no referral needed and no claims. That's what makes it fast and focused on the home, not on paperwork.
No. It's a safety consultation and a plan. If the screening suggests Mom needs skilled care, we'll say so plainly and point you to her doctor.
Whoever makes decisions. Adult children are welcome in person or by phone — the report is written for the whole family.
We don't do any of the work ourselves — that's deliberate. Our job is the assessment and the plan. The report is written so any contractor can bid from it, and we're happy to give you a list of people in the area who can do the work. When it's done, we come back and check it against the plan. Because we don't sell the work, nothing in the plan is there to sell you something.
Usually within the week. Call or text and we'll find a time.
